Following the initial construct of the 53-man roster, the New York Giants were awarded no players from the waiver wire following the league's massive cutdown day over the weekend.
The Giants, like every team across the NFL, reduced the active roster down to its 53-player limit as the league gears up for Week 1 of the regular season. That meant hundreds of players suddenly available on the waiver wire.
Despite holding the No. 5 spot in the waiver wire order, the Giants were awarded no players after the 1:00 p.m. ET deadline passed. It doesn't mean they didn't put a claim in on any players, however, considering there is no limit to how many players a team can claim.
Though the Giants were awarded no players, they did lose former sixth-round pick
Darius Muasau to the New England Patriots on the waiver wire. The Giants selected Muasau with the No. 183 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft out of UCLA.
In two seasons with Big Blue, Muasau appeared in 27 games (18 starts) while recording 106 tackles (50 solo), five tackles for loss, two quarterback hits and one interception. He will join former Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen in New England.
The Giants will continue to hold the No. 5 spot in the waiver order for the first three weeks of the season, per NFL rules, as the order is determined by draft position. Once Week 4 begins, however, the waiver order will be determined by the reverse order of current standings.
