The New York Giants (2-1) are preparing to host the Arizona Cardinals (1-2) for a Week 4 matchup at MetLife Stadium on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
With that, it provides those of us here at Giants Wire the opportunity to hypothetically steal some talent from the Cardinals' roster in hopes of addressing some pressing needs for Big Blue.
The Giants have had a whirlwind of a season thus far with major injuries hitting quarterback Jaxson Dart and edge rusher Brian Burns, both of which are expected to miss the rest of the season due to knee injuries. Meanwhile, Big Blue made a splash trade this week, acquiring quarterback J.J. McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings.
Throughout this fun weekly exercise, sometimes it makes sense taking the best
player. Other times, we like to forgo a star to highlight an area of need the Giants must address soon or during the upcoming offseason. In this case, it's the former.
Given the state of rosters on both sides of the ball, it makes the most sense to choose Cardinals tight end Trey McBride as they player to hypothetically steal from Arizona.
Adding a talent like McBride to the Giants offense would help immensely. Of course, Isaiah Likely should be given his flowers, but the Giants could run a nasty 12 personnel lineup with those two at tight end. Running those formations ended up being a major factor in Big Blue's win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.
McBride has picked up right where he left off to begin the campaign. Through three games, the star tight end has 26 receptions for 211 yards and two touchdowns.
With Theo Johnson failing to add much to the offense thus far through the first three weeks of his second season, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Giants added some depth to the position during the upcoming offseason.
