The New York Giants will face the Arizona Cardinals and rookie running back Jereniyah Love this Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
While many eyes will be zoned in on Love, whom the Giants reportedly coveted in this past April's NFL draft, one Giant is intent on reminding you that he's still very relevant.
Cam Skattebo will be out on the field reminding the Giants -- and the Cardinals -- that he didn't need replacing or a partner. He's just fine doing what he's doing, and what Love does has no bearing on him.
"Outperforming is not in my vision," Skattebo told reporters this week. "I want to go out there and outperform myself from last week. I'm not worried about any other running backs or anybody else on the field. I'm worried about me, my production,
making sure that I'm doing the right things. I had a couple missed assignments last week, so I'm going to take the blame for that.
"Come out here on the practice field, fix those things, and then when I go out on the field next week against the Cardinals, I'm going to get everything right and do everything right. I'm not looking for any competition from offense on offense. I'm trying to play against their defense, and that's what I'm focused on."
Skattebo plays with a chip on his shoulder every play. Fans love him as he gives them their money's worth. He's only averaging 3.5 yards per carry this season, but his impact can't be discounted. You know you're in a football game when you line up against him.
"I'm glad I don't have to tackle him," Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said. "He's a big boy and our guys know that."
Many fans in the Arizona area are fully aware of the legend of Skattebo. After all, he played at Arizona State and led them to a remarkable upset of Texas in the Peach Bowl in 2025.
"It sucked watching my own defense get destroyed like that, but it was pretty cool to see someone do that," said former Texas player Hayden Conner, now a backup offensive lineman for the Cardinals. "That was the most unbelievable single-game performance I've ever seen."
The Cardinals' rush defense has been less than formidable this season. They are allowing 127.7 yards per game on the ground, 26th in the NFL. They have also allowed 31 and 36 points in their last two games. The Giants and Skattebo could be in prime position for a breakout.
Last week against San Francisco, the Cards allowed Christian McCaffrey 75 yards on 15 carries, but he got into the end zone. He also caught four of five targets for a total of 41 yards.
Skattebo had 60 yards rushing and 40 more receiving in the Giants' 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
