New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. endured a polarizing preseason as he prepares for his third campaign in the NFL.
It's something that most NFL players go through during their careers. Despite his clear explosiveness, some lapses in pass protection and ball security have been driving the narrative behind Tracy's poor showing this preseason.
With Cam Skattebo set to lead the Giants backfield following his promising rookie campaign, Tracy is still expected to make an impact as a change-of-pace back.
Just ahead of the season, former Giants running back Tiki Barber shared some sage advice for Tracy following his down preseason.
"So I remember when Jim Fassel used to try to coach me through, because he was my biggest supporter, and the reason
I had the career I had was because Jim Fassel never gave up on me. One of the things that he always used to preach, and this is what I would preach to Tyrone Tracy is to focus on the little things, the minutiae," Barber said.

Tracy has been an efficient back throughout his first two seasons in the NFL. Despite scoring only two rushing touchdowns during his rookie campaign, he managed to produce 740 rushing yards on 176 carries. He followed that up with a 192-839-5 rushing line, the majority of which came after Skattebo's injury.
"To me, once I figured out as a player that football is so complicated, there's so many things that have to happen, but you have to do your individual job perfectly sometimes to make big plays happen," Barber said. "If you try to cheat it even just a little bit, bad things usually happen."
Barber also mentioned that he feels he should reach out to Tracy before the team's first game of the season.
The Giants run game is going to mostly funnel through Skattebo but if Tracy can lock in, Big Blue could have a strong 1-2 punch in the backfield.
