New York Giants running backs Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. both had productive weeks of practice as the team prepares for a Week 7 game against the Houston Texans, says head coach John Harbaugh.
Skattebo, who is working his way back into a larger role, has been a consistent presence in the running game plans. Harbaugh indicated the second-year back was always expected to factor prominently once healthy and ready.
"He was always going to be a big part of our season," Harbaugh told reporters on Friday. "And he had a heck of a week of practice, all the backs did. I thought the whole team had a really good week."
The Giants are focused on peaking for a difficult upcoming matchup in a challenging setting. Harbaugh said the group is prepared and
that Skattebo’s practice performance matched the standard set by the rest of the roster.
"We're up for it, we're ready for it, and Skatt, no less than anybody else, he had a heck of a week of practice," Harbaugh said.
Tracy has also positioned himself for increased work after recent performances. When asked whether the back has shown enough over the last several weeks to earn more reps and carries, Harbaugh answered directly.
"Yes," Harbaugh said. "He's practicing well. He's been right on with his assignments, and I think it's the physical nature, the way he's been running the ball, acceleration, speed, things like that have been really good."
The positive practice reports for both backs come as the Giants continue to evaluate their options in the backfield. With the team seeking consistent production on the ground, the recent work by Skattebo and Tracy provides additional flexibility heading into the weekend.
Harbaugh’s comments suggest both players are in line for meaningful roles as the offense looks to establish balance against a stout Texans defense.
