The New York Giants are placing running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. on injured reserve (IR) and signing running back Greg Desrosiers from the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad in a corresponding move.
Tracy is headed to injured reserve after sustaining a left hamstring injury in Sunday’s overtime win over the Houston Texans. He will miss at least the next four games.
General manager Joe Schoen confirmed the move during the team’s bye-week press conference and said the injury is “not something that’s going to be long-term,” indicating the Giants expect Tracy back once the minimum absence is complete.
Tracy left the Houston game in the second quarter and did not return. He had already scored a touchdown on an early carry before exiting. The bye week
offers an initial stretch of recovery time, but the injured-reserve designation formalizes a multi-game absence and opens a roster spot.
Desrosiers joins the Giants from the Chargers’ practice squad to provide depth while Tracy is sidelined. With Tracy out, the Giants will lean more heavily on Cam Skattebo and Devin Singletary in the backfield.
Skattebo has carried the primary workload this season and ran for a career-high total against the Texans, while Singletary has operated in a complementary role and scored the overtime touchdown. The addition of Desrosiers gives the team another option as it manages the backfield during Tracy’s absence.
Schoen’s assessment that the hamstring issue should not linger suggests Tracy could return in roughly a month, pending how the injury responds to treatment.
