When was the last time a 1-4 team traveled to play a 3-1-1 team and was favored by 1.5 points to win?
The answer? Never. In fact, no 1-4 team has ever been favored on the road by 1.5 points over a 3-1-1 or a 4-1 home team. But that is the case this week when the New Orleans Saints invade MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Giants.
The line makes no sense to the untrained eye. The Saints are on a three-game losing streak, while the Giants are 2-0-1 over their last three.
New Orleans is allowing 30.2 points per game and struggles to stop the run. The Giants have been scoring in droves lately with Jameis Winston under center.
The oddsmakers don't care. The betting public doesn't, either. The line has been holding steady at 1.5 points all week,
and the Giants have taken notice. In fact, it's become a motivational factor.
"We'll be challenged by this offense, but our guys are up to the task, and we love playing at MetLife Stadium and being underdogs," Giants defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson told reporters on Thursday. "Everybody counts us out. We like playing with a chip on our shoulder. That's what it is."
The Saints are 2-3 against the spread. The Giants are 4-1. Last season, the Giants were 4-13 in the standings but 9-8 against the spread.
