Cam Skattebo sparked the first real intra-squad scuffle of New York Giants training camp Wednesday, mixing it up with cornerback Greg Newsome and safety Jevon Holland.
SNY reporter Connor Hughes reported Skattebo initiated the exchange with the two defensive backs and called the moment a long time coming. Hughes added that the second-year running back has been talking trash to the secondary for most of the summer.

New York Post reporter Ryan Dunleavy described it as camp’s first genuine intra-squad dust-up and said he did not see punches thrown. Later in practice,
Skattebo was on the defensive sideline, Dunleavy wrote, presumably making amends.

The flashpoint fits Skattebo’s reputation. The physical runner has been a constant presence in team periods as he works back from last season’s ankle injury and holds the lead role in a crowded backfield. That same style — including verbal jabs at the secondary — has been part of his identity since New York drafted him in 2025.
Training camp tempers often rise when one side is limited in how it can respond. Wednesday’s scuffle appeared to cool quickly. Skattebo seeking out the defensive sideline suggested the usual camp sequence: A competitive flare-up, then a conversation once the period ends.
"He got a 15-yard penalty at the end of practice. Did you see that? Yeah, it’s infectious. It can be infectious the other way, an infectious disease type of thing. We want it to be in a positive way," head coach John Harbaugh told reporters.
For a Giants team still installing John Harbaugh’s program, the episode was more snapshot than a crisis. Skattebo’s edge is one reason he has stayed atop the running back depth chart. The secondary’s reaction showed that edge is being felt on both sides of the ball.
