Which individual matchup will define the New York Giants' Week 2 game against the Los Angeles Rams?
Pro Football Focus' Bradley Locker listed Malik Nabers’ head-to-head duel with Trent McDuffie among the 10 best marquee matchups in the NFL this week.
Monday night’s showdown is sneakily a big one. The Rams hope to play in much greater rhythm against a Giants team with momentum. This game incorporates several fascinating player matchups, but none better than this.
Nabers made his return from an early-season torn ACL and was effective. Against Dallas, he caught six of nine targets for 69 yards, compiling a 71.0 overall PFF grade with 2.88 yards per route run.
While Los Angeles’ defense experienced a cataclysmic opener, McDuffie was the exception. In
his Rams debut, McDuffie made his presence felt against both the pass and run to earn an 83.4 overall PFF grade.
Given the Rams’ zone-heavy approach against the 49ers — deploying such looks on 84.6% of defensive snaps — it’s possible we’ll see Nabers rotate against both McDuffie and Jaylen Watson. Nonetheless, the snaps between these two players will be a great war.
Nabers remains one of the league’s top wide receivers. He posted 1,204 receiving yards as a rookie in 2024, then missed all but four games of the 2025 season after a torn ACL. He returned in the Giants' opener against the Dallas Cowboys and finished with six catches for 69 yards.
It's too early to project a full season from one performance, but he is off to a solid start toward another 1,000-yard year in 2026.
Facing McDuffie will present a stern test. The two-time All-Pro and two-time Super Bowl champion already has two passes defensed this season. Nabers will need to be at his best against one of the strongest corners he will see all year if the Giants are going to leave SoFi Stadium with a win.
