New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo heard the problem before the Tennessee Titans' final snap.
Big Blue led 12-7 at MetLife Stadium on Sunday with Tennessee still driving and about 15 seconds left. In the biggest moment of the game, the crowd went quiet.

"As you can tell, late in that game as they kept driving -- there was 15 seconds on the clock -- the crowd was silent," Skattebo told reporters. "The crowd was silent. And that is the biggest moment in the game. I know you want to watch the game; I know you want to see what's going to happen. But we need the crowd where the ball is as loud as possible. If they can't even snap the ball, they have
no chance of winning.
"I think this crowd has a lot more in them. . . If we make home field advantage a true home field advantage, we got a real shot at this."
That hush was memory, not indifference. Week 1 against Dallas was electric, with John Harbaugh, Jaxson Dart, Skattebo and Malik Nabers making MetLife believe again. Week 2 ripped that away. A blowout loss to the Rams ended Dart's season. Then Brian Burns suffered a season-ending knee injury Sunday, and the Giants looked ready to collapse the way they so often did after 2025.
Players admitted they would have lost that game a year ago. Fans expected it, too. That is why they went silent when they should have been loudest. It was learned trauma from over a decade of underachieving and disappointment.
But Skattebo is right. Giants fans have to be the 12th man at home. And if the team keeps winning, those low expectations will start to fade.
