Cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who is in a contract standoff with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is a marquee player the New York Giants could stand to gain from pursuing in a trade.
Porter is a playmaker. As a young outside corner, he has the talent to handle difficult assignments and has consistently made electrifying plays that gave the Steelers momentum throughout his three NFL seasons.
Porter made an immediate impact as a rookie in 2023. He finished fifth in AP Defensive Rookie of the Year voting after recording an interception and 10 passes defensed while establishing himself as a game-changer for Pittsburgh.
He followed that up in 2024 with an interception, seven passes defensed, and two tackles for loss. In 2025, he recorded his first career sack,
another interception and a career-high 14 passes defensed.
Porter’s play in 2025 reinforced his value as a physical and athletic perimeter defender. He used his length to cause disruption, stayed connected with his man through routes, and contested throws without allowing catches. His coverage prowess would give the Giants a player capable of making a difference and potentially serving as their best cornerback if they pursue a deal.
For the Giants, Porter would address a key position that still has question marks, especially after Paulson Adebo’s underwhelming camp and with the jury still out on Deonte Banks.
Porter’s talent, skills and edge have the potential to make the Giants defense even better next season. He has All-Pro potential and is worth pursuing for a team on the rise.
