The New York Giants waived running back Dante Miller on Monday with an injury designation.
Miller, who the team calls "Turbo" due to his explosive speed, suffered a groin injury in Saturday's 13-10 preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He has been with the Giants since 2024, but has not appeared in a regular-season game for the team since then.
The 27-year-old was fourth on the Giants' depth chart at running back behind Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Trac, Jr., and Devin Singletary. He was battling Eric Gray and rookie Damon Bankston for a roster spot this summer.
As for free agent Najee Harris, who was in for a visit, head coach John Harbaugh said bringing in the former Alabama and Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick would be a "process."
Harris signed
with the Los Angeles Chargers last year on a one-year, $9.5 million deal but was lost for the season after three games, landing on injured reserve (IR) with a torn Achilles tendon. If he can pass the physical, Harris could add some depth and experience to an interesting running back room.
"I felt like the hair on the back of my neck stood up when I saw him over there, you know? He's a big dude," Harbaugh said of 6-foot-1, 242-pound Harris. "So, yes, he's coming back from the Achilles injury he had with my brother (Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh). And he looks good in the workout. You know, he's not back 100 percent. He's not in football shape yet. So, if we are able to do something, it'll be a process.
"But that would be a guy that has got a lot of experience. He's a decorated vet. And with those guys, generally, you just have to kind of see where they're at when you get them. And sometimes it works out great. Sometimes it's just okay, and other times it doesn't work out. But based on the workout, I would say we feel like he's got a shot. We'll just have to see how it goes."
As for Miller, should he clear waivers, he will revert to IR.
