When the Seahawks thoroughly dismantled the Arizona Cardinals 31-7 in Week 2, the star of the show (to no one's surprise) was wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The highest paid wide receiver in the history of the NFL showed exactly why the Seahawks gave him a contract worth roughly equivalent the GDP of the island nation of Nauru.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba torched the Cardinals with nine receptions for 155 yards and a career-best three touchdown receptions. His receiving total was actually greater than the net yardage Arizona's offense (151) gained on Sunday.
Unfortunately, this sublime performance was not enough to merit an NFC Offensive Player of the Week award from the NFL. Instead, it went to 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who was 20-of-22 for 287
yards and had two passing touchdowns against the lowly Miami Dolphins. It's always frustrating to see one of Seattle's rivals get the recognition instead.
Right now JSN is well on his way to a second Offensive Player of the Year award. He is currently leading the NFL in receiving yards (277), tied for first in receiving touchdowns (4) and is third in receptions (17). JSN will have an excellent opportunity to attempt to win a Player of the Week award on Sunday, as the Seahawks face the Washington Commanders.
