The Seattle Seahawks have made a roster transaction. On Tuesday afternoon, the team announced via their PR social media accounts that they signed undrafted rookie defensive tackle Gary Smith III to their practice squad.
Smith originally began his career with Duke, spending his freshman and sophomore seasons with the Blue Devils. He eventually transferred to UCLA where he spent the final three years of his collegiate career with the Bruins. During his years at the college level, Smith played in 50 total games, racking up 111 total tackles (9.5 of which went for a loss) and 4.5 sacks. He did not play in 2024 due to a preseason injury.
After going undrafted this past spring, Smith signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. He was released prior to the start
of the season, not surviving the final round of roster cuts.
Sadly, as with every transaction to add, there must be an equal and opposite transaction to release. Fellow rookie nose tackle, Uso Seumalo was released. The nation became quite familiar with the lovable ukelele-playing big man from Hawaii during the Seahawks' appearance on "Hard Knocks" this summer.
