The Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos are taking the concept of "Throwback Thursday" quite literally. Both teams will be wearing their classic throwback uniforms for a showdown on Thursday Night Football. Back when these teams wore these old school threads, the Seahawks and Broncos were division rivals in the AFC West.
With this in mind, I figure it was high time to take a trip down memory lane and reminisce about legendary Seahawks wide receiver Steve Largent and the favorite play of his historic career. You'd think for a man who became the first receiver in NFL history to score 100 touchdowns, surely his favorite play would be one of those catches!
Nope. You'd be wrong.
In fact, Largent's favorite play is actually a tackle, and it was one fueled
by revenge. During the 1988 season opener, Largent took a dirty hit from Denver Broncos safety Mike Harden. The hit knocked Largent out for several minutes, including a few of his teeth. Harden was fined $5,000 (which is nearly $14,000 today) but his punishment ultimately ended up being more severe.... he will be remembered forever as the subject of someone else's highlight.
Fourteen weeks later, Seattle hosted Denver at the Kingdom for a rematch. Harden intercepted a pass from Seahawks quarterback Dave Krieg in the end zone. During the return, he did not notice Steve Largent flying in. Largent obliterated Harden, which forced him to fumble the ball... a fumble that Largent himself recovered.
You can see Largent talk about the play himself in this clip from A Football Life here. Must-see for every 12 out there!
