There weren't many low points during the Seattle Seahawks' championship run last year. Seattle won 17 total games and thoroughly dominated en route to their second Lombardi. However, one of the least fun aspects of the 2025 campaign came right off the bat in Week 1 when the Seahawks lost at home 17-13 to the San Francisco 49ers. Although Seattle would go on to humiliate them in their next two games at the end of the year, this was an absurdly frustrating loss to experience out of the gate.
The Seahawks ultimately lost when Sam Darnold lost the football on a strip sack from Nick Bosa at San Francisco's nine yard line. But the Niners were in a position to win because Seattle's defense couldn't preserve a 13-10 lead late. Sounding familiar? With
a little over 90 seconds remaining in the game, Brock Purdy found tight end Jake Tonges in the corner of the end zone under heavy cover from Riq Woolen. The former Seahawks corner had his hands on the ball, but was unable to make a play, which allowed the Niners to take their 17-13 lead.
Why am I bringing any of this up? Because the ending to Wednesday night's game against the Patriots to begin the 2026 season is eerily similar to how the 2025 season began. It was a mirror image, but from the timeline where Seattle wins. A pass from a quarterback under durress was lobbed into the end zone, but this time a Seahawks corner made the play and snagged the interception to secure the 13-10 win.
