The Seattle Seahawks could be getting some much-needed reinforcements at the running back position in the near future. On Thursday morning, the team announced they were officially designating running back Zach Charbonnet to return to practice. Head coach Mike Macdonald said this was a possibility during Wednesday's press conference, and now it has become reality.
Charbonnet still has a ways to go before we finally see him on the field. The former UCLA standout began the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, which meant he was guaranteed to miss at least four games. Since it is now Week 4, Charbonnet still has one more game to go before the Seahawks can even think about elevating him back to the active 53-man roster. But the fact
he can return to practice is a good sign that he could be on his way back sooner than later.
What this designation means is Charbonnet now has 21 days to prove he is physically capable of returning to action. If he is not added back to the roster at the conclusion of his window, then he will remain on the PUP list for the rest of the 2026 season.
The Seahawks need Charbonnet back in action in the worst way. Through three games this year, Seattle only has one rushing touchdown and it's from tight end AJ Barner. Not one Seahawks running back has found the end zone so far this year, and that includes a game against the Arizona Cardinals. Seattle's ground attack completely fell apart in Week 3, with the team only rushing for 44 total yards.
Charbonnet rushed for 730 yards in 2025 and became the first Seahawk since Marshawn Lynch in 2014 to have double-digit (12) rushing touchdowns.
