The Seattle Seahawks are enjoying the primetime spotlight each week this summer as the subjects of HBO's latest edition of "Hard Knocks." This past Tuesday evening, episode four aired, chronicling the lowest point of the offseason so far for Seattle. This was, without a doubt, the hardest episode to watch as it covered both the Jake Bobo and Bud Clark season ending injuries during the second week of the preseason.
It truly felt as if Bobo and Clark were really ramping up in camp, but horrendous luck ended their 2026 seasons before they could even begin. As we do each week, we at Seahawks Wire are taking the time to give our top takeaways from the latest episode of "Hard Knocks."
No. 1 - Bobo's injury felt like a cruel twist of fate
Dark irony struck the Seahawks during their joint practice with the Tennessee
Titans. We saw head coach Mike Macdonald intentionally sit veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp due to injury concerns. With Kupp out, his routes and responsibilities fell to Jake Bobo, who ended up suffering the season-ending injury. In a way, it showcased exactly why Macdonald was right to sit Kupp - a player who is beyond indispensable to this team. But it came at the cost of a valued depth/special teams star in Jake Bobo.
No. 2 - An opportunity is now open for Montorie Foster Jr.
The grim reality of the NFL is injury often opens the window of opportunity for others. Making the cut on this loaded Seahawks roster was always going to be an uphill battle for many players, but with Bobo out of the mix, wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. now has a chance to earn those reps for himself. Foster has been the star of training camp, and for "Hard Knocks" this summer. His strong performances in both of Seattle's preseason games has him on the inside track to be the Jake Bobo replacement.
No. 3 - A talented batch of rookies...
...and I'm not just talking about their athletic ability. The rookie talent show has been a staple in the Seahawks organization, and it made for great television to finally be able to see it play out. This was a lighthearted moment to show the personalities of the team, and a chance to see these larger-than-life figures in a more relatable setting: enjoying drinks, dinner and music with friends on a Friday night. The star of the show was defensive tackle Uso Seumalo who serenaded the crowd with his guitar.
.@Seahawks rookie DT Uso Seumalo absolutely crushed a rendition of "No Woman, No Cry" at the rookie talent show. 🔥

No. 4 - Mike Macdonald's connection with his team is the real deal
In episode four, we got to see a glimpse of Mike Macdonald operating with his leadership council, showcasing a method of how he is able to "spread the gospel" so to speak. Later, we saw a vulnerable moment where he shared the news of the passing of his mentor O.J. Brigance after his 19 year battle with ALS. Macdonald was clearly emotional, and showed a side of him many probably don't get to see. Authenticity is truly the currency of the realm in the NFL. Players are drawn to it, and they can immediately sniff it out when they realize someone is faking it. The fact Macdonald is able to consistently be himself shows part of the reason why he's been able to have so much success as a coach.
.@Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald had a beautiful tribute for his late friend, mentor, and legendary LB O.J. Brigance, who battled ALS for 19 years. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/bGPzntt18a

No. 5 - Leonard Williams is the very definition of leader
We wrote in our episode one takeaways article how Cooper Kupp is essentially an extension of the coaching staff on the field. He's involved in the quarterback room, he's having one-on-one meetings with Mike Macdonald, and he's teaching younger players on the particulars of this offense. It's clear that Leonard Williams is the defensive equivalent of Cooper Kupp in terms of leadership. We constantly see the man they call "Big Cat," who is appropriately on the leadership council, acting as a liaison between Macdonald and the rest of the defense. Safety Julian Love fills a similar role on this team, but Williams is the star of the show so far. His impact on this team comes from terrorizing opposing quarterbacks and his invaluable leadership skills. Honestly, Mike Salk of Seattle Sports Radio said it best: "I don't know how the Jets and Giants let this guy out of their building."
