Seattle Seahawks star defensive tackle Leonard Williams approaches a contract year in 2026, which has the franchise in a situation where a critical decision will need to be made about his future with the team.
According to Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport, Williams’ current situation is the most important contract decision that the Seahawks face ahead of the 2026 season.
“At 32, Williams is closer to the end of his career than the beginning,” Davenport said. “But he has 18 sacks and two Pro Bowl trips over the past two seasons, and an ESPN poll of coaches and executives recently named him the best defensive tackle in the game… He's not going anywhere.”
The Seahawks have a young core on defense including All-Pro cornerback Devon Witherspoon (25),
safety Nick Emmanwori (22), defensive tackle Byron Murphy (23) and edge rusher Derick Hall (25). However, Williams is one of the veteran stars on the team, also including All-Pro linebacker Ernest Jones IV and star edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence, and is a key part of why their defense was so successful last season.
Keeping Williams in town for several more seasons figures to be a smart move for the team. His presence in the interior is vital for the team and worth keeping around.
