Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold saw a downturn in production in the team’s 30-23 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4, though he did what was needed to will the team to victory.
Darnold warranted a “C+” for his performance in the win. He completed 13 of 22 passes for 168 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He added three carries for six yards on the ground. His touchdown passes gave the Seahawks enough offense to secure the victory, even as the passing game struggled to establish consistent rhythm.
The interception came on Seattle’s first offensive play, when Chargers star Tuli Tuipulotu stepped in front of Darnold’s pass intended for Emanuel Wilson. It was Darnold’s second straight game with an interception thrown after
he threw two against the Washington Commanders in Week 3. The turnover immediately gave Los Angeles favorable field position that resulted in a field goal scored on the ensuing drive.
Darnold did not reach 200 passing yards, finishing 32 yards short of that benchmark. His completion rate and limited overall volume left something to be desired, even with the two touchdowns that he threw. The win matters most, but the uneven performance is one that Darnold will look to improve on in Week 5 and beyond.
