The Seattle Seahawks are in a precarious situation as they’ve fallen to 3-3 on the year following their loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 6, and the their status as one of the heaviest-hitting teams in the league has diminished slightly.
Bleacher Report’s ranked the Seahawks No. 9 overall in their latest NFL power rankings
in the aftermath of their loss to the Broncos that has raised questions about the defending champions’ ability to sustain their success.”Backfield injuries have prevented the Seahawks from running the ball effectively,” Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox said. “As a team, Seattle has averaged just 3.9 yards per carry. This has allowed opposing defenses to focus on pressuring quarterback Sam Darnold, who has been the team's
other issue… With seven interceptions in less than five full games, Darnold has actively cost Seattle wins… The Seahawks are now playing catch-up in the NFC West, though they have a pretty clear path to righting the ship.”
Seattle has dropped consecutive games, putting increased pressure on the team to respond. Sam Darnold struggled in Week 6 against Denver, completing 27 of 51 passes for 278 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in a 17-14 overtime loss. Through five games played thus far this season, Darnold has thrown for 1,033 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.
The loss to the Broncos has intensified concerns about Seattle’s overall efficacy, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Although the defense limited Denver’s offense after halftime, the Seahawks could not capitalize offensively, and Darnold’s overtime interception proved to be costly. At 3-3, Seattle must find greater consistency across its offense and defense to reestablish itself as the contender its expected to be moving forward.
