The Seattle Seahawks have made four roster transactions regarding their practice squad. On Wednesday morning, the team announced via their social media PR accounts that they released veteran safety D'Anthony Bell and wide receiver Julian Hicks from their practice squad.
This is yet another turn Bell's roller coaster tenure with the Seahawks. Bell appeared in 14 games for the Seahawks last year, and even started two of them. He even blocked a punt during Seattle's Week 3 win over the New Orleans Saints. Bell was eventually released late in the season by the Seahawks and was later claimed by the Carolina Panthers. While Bell obviously did not participate in Super Bowl LX, the Seahawks still gifted him a Super Bowl ring to celebrate his accomplishments
with the team during the year.
The release of Bell is quite surprising, in my personal opinion, given the injury concerns at the safety position. Ty Okada has yet to play yet, and Nick Emmanwori only just returned. But his return is somewhat negated as Julian Love is now missing time.
Wide receiver Julian Hicks was signed to the Seahawks after their preseason Week 1 loss. Hicks had spent the better part of the last two seasons on the Green Bay Packers' practice squad. Filling their places are linebacker Jimmy Ciarlo and wide receiver Malick Meiga.
Meiga was actually signed to the practice squad last week, but there was an exemption in place. That has been lifted, which means he now counts towards the 17-man limit on the practice squad.
Ciarlo went undrafted in 2024 and was signed by the New York Jets. Sadly, he missed his rookie season with a knee injury. He went on to play in a single game for the Buffalo Bills last year. Now he has a chance to re-establish his professional career in Seattle.
