Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald led with a measured tone after the team’s 33-31 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday, expressing confidence that his team will respond from the crushing loss.
After the game, Macdonald pushed a forward-thinking approach rooted in the trust that he has in his players to respond quickly following the loss.
“I know our team,” Macdonald said. “I know what they’re made of. I know what we have. We’re going to go back to work. We’re going to get better.”
The Seahawks were in position to capture the win, but costly mistakes at inopportune times allowed the Commanders to maintain momentum and keep the game close. Seattle was affected by Washington’s defense throughout the game, as the Commanders’ opposition limited
the Seahawks to 44 yards on the ground and came away with two interceptions against Sam Darnold in the game.
The team’s immediate focus now shifts toward reviewing the loss, identifying what led to executional mishaps, and applying corrections in practice.
The loss was a tough one for the Seahawks, with Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels out due to injury. Nevertheless, Macdonald’s confidence in the roster is key for the defending Super Bowl champions to have the mentality to quickly put the loss behind them.
Seattle now faces a pivotal week of preparation before they take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. The Chargers entered the season as Super Bowl contenders, but have begun the year at 0-3 and are in search of their first win. Seattle will be faced with a great challenge against Los Angeles, but have the Chargers’ slow start to the year on their side for the upcoming matchup.
