The Seattle Seahawks have completed a lot of housekeeping items this offseason. The biggest remaining item on John Schneider's to-do list is signing cornerback Devon Witherspoon to a contract extension. Witherspoon deserves to be one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL, and negotiations between him and the team have loomed large this offseason.
There have been whispers that Witherspoon's extension talks could tie directly to the discussions between the New England Patriots and cornerback Christian Gonzalez. Gonzalez is also eligible for an extension this offseason. The Seahawks and Witherspoon may be waiting on what happens there.
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel recently provided an update on Gonzalez's contract negotiations at training
camp.
“He is here and I would expect him to participate," Vrabel said about Gonzalez. "Those contract negotiations are ongoing. I'm excited about having Christian back here with us.”

It seems like neither the Patriots nor the Seahawks want to budge first. Whether Gonzalez or Witherspoon signs first, they are going to absolutely reset the cornerback market. The follow-up contract will need to be in the same neighborhood, possibly surpassing the terms and guaranteed money.
The Patriots don't sound any closer to signing Gonzalez to an extension. The Seahawks and Witherspoon are playing a similar waiting game.
