The Seattle Seahawks reinforced their standing as one of the NFL’s top Super Bowl contenders with their 30-23 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4, improving to 3-1 on the season and remaining in the early playoff picture.
Bleacher Report ranked the Seahawks No. 3 overall in their latest power rankings
and highlighted the team’s defense as being a major strength that they have going for them heading into a tough stretch of the season.“Seattle sacked quarterback Justin Herbert four times and hit him on 10 different occasions,” Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski said. “Plus, the Seahawks were able to overcome 150 penalty yards… Mike Macdonald's squad is talented, but it needs to be more disciplined when the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos,
Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears are its next four opponents.”
Emanuel Wilson continued to prove that he is capable of producing like a primary running back when given RB1-level carries. Wilson recorded 21 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown against the Chargers, and added three catches for 39 yards and a receiving touchdown in the game. He provided Seattle with a stable, productive running back with Jadarian Price banged up, ensuring that the team will be able to rely on its run game until Zach Charbonnet returns from injury.
Sam Darnold completed 13 of 22 passes for 168 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Week 4 while directing an offense that delivered in key moments. Though he did not turn in a volume performance the way that he did in Week 3, he led the Seahawks to a win, and looked like the Super Bowl-winning quarterback that he was last season.
The Chargers entered the game at 0-3, but their record did not diminish the talent on their roster or the Super Bowl expectations that they carried entering the season. Beating a team built to contend gives Seattle additional validation as being a team in the upper-crust of the league, and with the defense playing like perhaps the best unit in the league and the receiving game flowing, the Seahawks looked the part of an elite contender and will carry that status into Week 5.
