Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Sam Darnold has been ruled out for the team’s upcoming matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, according to The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones, and will not be placed on injured reserve. This has been consistent with what news we have received from the Seahawks and sources close to the team. Head coach Mike Macdonald explained it is a unique soft tissue injury
related to his glute. This injury was sustained in the Seahawks’ Week 1 win over the Patriots. He left the season opener only five plays into the game with the injury and completed only one pass for 13 yards.
Drew Lock will start in place of Darnold in Week 2. Lock filled in for Darnold after he went down, and led Seattle to the win over New England behind 187
passing yards and a passing touchdown. Seattle is hopeful that Darnold will be back sooner than later, and the fact they aren't putting him on injured reserve is evidence of this.
The Seahawks will look to improve to 2-0 against the Cardinals. Arizona is coming off of a 26-14 upset win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1.
