Seattle Seahawks superstar wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has established himself as the clear frontrunner for the AP Offensive Player of the Year award following Week 8 of the 2026 NFL season.
Smith-Njigba is putting together a historic year, with remarkable numbers on a weekly basis that has separated him from the league's best offensive playmakers.
Smith-Njigba leads the NFL with in receiving yards with 985 and receiving touchdowns with nine. He remains on pace to record approximately 2,093 receiving yards, which will break Calvin Johnson's all-time NFL single-season receiving yards record of 1,964 yards.
His advantage over the other top receivers in the league is equally impressive. JSN holds a 259-yard cushion over the next closest receiver,
Cincinnati Bengals star WR Tee Higgins, who has 726, which demonstrates a level of dominance unmatched by his peers.
Kenneth Walker III has been spectacular this season at the running back position, but given the fact that Jahmyr Gibbs has overtaken him in rushing and scrimmage yards on the year, the latter of which Gibbs leads the league in, having had a bye week at that compared to most of the league, Gibbs is right on JSN’s heels in the award race, with Walker being third. Nevertheless, Smith-Njigba's receiving production gives him separation from the entire field.
Through eight weeks, nobody has made a stronger case for Offensive Player of the Year. Smith-Njigba belongs at the top of the award ladder.
