Seattle Seahawks star Jaxon Smith-Njigba is producing at a pace that will place him in uncharted territory if kept up for the entire season.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Smith-Njigba is on pace to record an NFL-record 2,295 receiving yards this season if he plays in all 17 games of the year.
Smith-Njigba is the driving force of the Seahawks’ passing game, pairing exceptional hands with sharp route-running and the ability to explode for huge receptions down the field. His production has made him the NFL’s leading receiver with 405 yards through three games.
JSN’s projected total, if achieved, will set a new standard among all pass-catchers to have ever played in the league and add to his sensational body of work as is, which includes
an AP Offensive Player of the Year award and a Super Bowl championship, both of which he won last season. Reaching that mark will require him to maintain the extraordinary level of play that he is exhibiting while dealing with tougher levels of defense as the schedule intensifies, including inevitable defensive adjustments and increasingly difficult coverages.
There is still a long way to go before season-long records can be discussed as reality rather than possibility. But Smith-Njigba’s start has created pursuing a pace the league has never seen before.
