Seattle Seahawks rookie running back Jadarian Price missed the team's first preseason game, a 17-7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. George Holani received the start in the backfield as a result. Holani rushed for 42 yards via 12 carries, averaging 3.5 yards per carry.
It was a big opportunity for Holani to secure a role on offense. Fellow running backs Emanuel Wilson and Jacardia Wright were also unavailable due to injury versus the Cowboys. Unfortunately for Holani, he didn't do enough to secure a starting role.
Holani is the starter until further notice. Price, Wilson, and Zach Charbonnet need to get healthy before they can supplant Holani. But the lackluster ground-game showing versus the Cowboys might indicate the Seahawks need a more dynamic back
to emerge.
The Seahawks need Price to get healthy. The first-round back was drafted to essentially replace Kenneth Walker III. Being available and executing the details on offense such as pass protection would help Price become Brian Fleury's go-to option.
Holani was clearly Seattle's starting running back in the preseason debut. That was essentially decided by default, with Price, Wilson, and Charbonnet all sidelined with injury. Holani looked capable versus the Cowboys, but Price is still the back with the most upside.
