The Seattle Seahawks signed running back Velus Jones Jr. to the 53-man roster from their own practice squad on Wednesday. Wide receiver Irv Charles was released and signed back to the practice squad in a corresponding move. Seahawks.com Senior Reporter John Boyle published the news at 2:03 p.m. PDT.
This news comes 24 hours after the team signed Charles to the active roster, releasing Jones and re-signing him to the practice squad in a corresponding move. Boyle best described the move by tweeting the article’s link with a picture of an UNO reverse card.

The NFL’s vested-veteran waiver deadline passed at 1:00 p.m. PDT Wednesday. A vested veteran is defined
as a player who has accrued four or more credited NFL seasons. Both Jones and Charles fit that definition. They don’t have to go through waivers when they’re released before the deadline. After the deadline, they immediately become free agents instead.
Since the deadline passed today, this was the last chance Seahawks general manager John Schneider had to shuffle the two between the roster and the practice squad. If either were released again, the Seahawks wouldn’t necessarily have the first shot to keep them around.
