The Seattle Seahawks finished second in the NFL in opponent passer rating allowed last season, as their unit allowed opposing quarterbacks to post a combined rating of 77.9, the team announced.
The figure highlighted the strength and consistency of Seattle’s defense throughout the regular season. Opposing quarterbacks completed 62.5% of their passes against the Seahawks last season. Seattle’s defense also recorded 18 interceptions and 47 sacks on the year.
Seattle’s ability to limit opposing passing attacks was a key part of their defense which helped the team put together a 14-3 regular-season record. The secondary consistently made life difficult for opposing quarterbacks, while the pass rush added pressure up front.
A 77.9 opponent passer rating
placed the Seahawks among the league’s best teams defending against the pass and provided another indication of the unit’s overall effectiveness. Leading the charge was Seattle's criminally underrated safety Julian Love, who led the entire NFL with the lowest passer rating allowed by an individual defender.
With coverage and pressure working together, Seattle’s defense gave the team a reliable foundation and helped establish the Seahawks as one of the NFL’s toughest teams to throw against last season.
