The NFC is gearing up for all-out war, and it's not just out west. Following trade battle that took place between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, the arms race spilled over into the midway, as the Chicago Bears made a massive move of their own. On Thursday morning, the Bears traded for Tennessee Titans star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, and made history in doing so.
Chicago sent over two first round picks to acquire the services of Simmons, making him the first defensive tackle in the modern draft era (since 1967) to be traded for multiple first rounders. The Bears' full compensation also includes a 2027 fourth round pick, while Tennessee will also send a 2028 fifth round selection as well.
This mammoth trade now means the first
team to face this new-look Bears defensive line will be... the Seattle Seahawks.
Seattle is hosting Chicago on "Monday Night Football" in a heavyweight bout to cap off NFL Week 8. Fortunately for the Seahawks, they are bizarrely prepared to handle the challenge because of their own recent trading. Seattle acquired former Indianapolis Colts left guard Quenton Nelson earlier in the week. Not only is Nelson in the prime of his Hall of Fame caliber career, he is well-acquainted with Simmons, as the two used to battle each other twice a year as AFC South rivals!
"Monday Night Football" was already one of the best games of the weekend. Now, it's one fans across the country are going to make sure they are rearranging their schedules in order to watch these Super Bowl LXI contenders square off.
