The Seattle Seahawks were defeated 17-14 by the Denver Broncos in overtime on Thursday Night Football in Week 6. Quarterback Sam Darnold continued to struggle. As our Kole Musgrove covered, the Seahawks currently have a massive Darnold problem.
Darnold threw another two interceptions versus the Broncos, bringing his season-long total to seven INTs in just four complete games. The former USC QB was first intercepted with under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter in Broncos territory as the offense was attempting to secure the win. Luckily, the defense quickly got the offense the ball back and Jason Myers hit a game-tying field goal.
Darnold was intercepted for a second time in overtime, directly leading to the Broncos' game-winning field
goal in OT. Darnold was under constant duress as he (and a struggling rushing attack) consistently put the offense in 3rd-and-long situations. That allowed the ferocious Broncos pass rush to pin their ears back and attack the pocket. The Seahawks were 7-of-17 on third down and Darnold was sacked five times for a second straight game.
Darnold has not played good football since returning to the Seahawks' lineup from an injury. The offense looked much better when Drew Lock was operating it. The Seahawks probably won't consider benching Darnold for Lock, but this simply cannot continue.
