The Seattle Seahawks announced that starting quarterback Sam Darnold is dealing with quad and rib injuries. It'll be Darnold's second stint on the sidelines this season due to injury. Backup Drew Lock will start against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9 on Sunday.
Interestingly enough, Lock made his only other start of the season against the Cardinals in Week 2. That occurred after Darnold was injured in the regular-season opener versus the New England Patriots. Lock totally dominated the Cardinals, and he'll look to do it again.
Lock was 19-of-26 in Week 2 versus the Cardinals for 235 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He averaged an aggressive 9.0 yards per attempt and his quarterback rating was a near-perfect 139.1.
The Seahawks
blew out the Cardinals 31-7. Lock began the game by throwing an explosive 82-yard touchdown to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He later threw two additional TDs to JSN. Chemistry between Lock and Seattle's go-to receiver won't be an issue versus the Cardinals on Sunday.
Lock looked extremely comfortable operating Brian Fleury's offense in that game. The Cardinals defense hasn't gotten better since then, and they are rumored to trade veterans like Budda Baker and Josh Sweat before the deadline. Lock should toy with the Cardinals in Week 9.
