The Seattle Seahawks took their first loss in 45 weeks when they lost 33-31 to the Washington Commanders. Seattle dropped to 2-1 on the year, and as a result, they took a bit of a dip in the latest ESPN power ranking for NFL Week 5. The Seahawks weren't punished too heavily for their narrow road loss, as they only fell from No. 2 to the No. 4 spot.
Seattle had been No. 2 behind the Buffalo Bills, who remain atop ESPN's power rankings. Now the Seahawks trail Buffalo, San Francisco (who the Seahawks will play in a recently-flexed Week 5 game) and Kansas City. Immediately behind the Seahawks are Baltimore, Denver, and for some reason, the LA Rams at No. 7 despite their 1-2 record. The media's love affair with the Rams knows no bounds!
Here is what
ESPN's Brady Henderson wrote about the Seahawks in the latest power rankings:
Price was 25th among running backs in ADP, reflecting the fact that he was going to be part of a timeshare in Seattle's backfield. But even with those modest expectations, the rookie first-round pick is off to an underwhelming start. He ranks 47th in fantasy points among running backs after a dud of a performance in Week 3, when he totaled 22 scrimmage yards on six touches with a lost fumble. The fumble was Price's second in as many weeks, which was a big reason for his diminished workload.
Seattle played about as sloppy as we've seen them. They turned the ball over three times, and all three turnovers directly led to touchdowns for the Commanders. It was the first time since 2005 that a Washington team had scored 21 points off three turnovers. However, despite this, the Seahawks were will very much within a position to potentially win the game late. Had the Dark Side defense managed to get a stop on either of the two 3rd-and-longs the Commanders faced on their final drive, Sam Darnold (who had 379 yards and four touchdown passes) would have had one more opportunity to engineer a game-winning drive.
But they didn't get the stop, so Darnold didn't get his chance, and the Seahawks lost. Such is life in the NFL. Seattle has their first bounce-back opportunity in Week 4 with a home game against the Chargers.
