Do the Seattle Seahawks stand to gain from adding a free agent quarterback to their roster amid Sam Darnold’s injury?
Drew Lock stepped in for Darnold after the latter went down with a hip injury in the Seahawks’ 13-10 win over the New England Patriots and is positioned to continue in the starting role moving forward. Lock played well, and did what was necessary to lead Seattle to the win. He’s also a seasoned veteran backup in the league. The Seahawks also have Jalen Milroe as their QB3, though he has not seen much action yet in his career. However, having another QB until Darnold returns may prove to be beneficial for Seattle.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay tabbed veteran QB Josh Johnson as a player worth adding for Seattle to provide depth for the
team while Darnold works his way back from injury.
“Given their aspirations of joining the Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs as the only back-to-back champs of the 21st century, the Seahawks should prioritize acquiring a proven player over a raw young passer,” Kay said. “Josh Johnson, a grizzled 19-year veteran, fits the bill perfectly. Although he's currently on the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad, the Seahawks could pluck him off and add him to the active roster as their QB3.”
Johnson started in two of the five games that he played last season for the Washington Commanders and recorded 372 passing yards with a 1-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. With all his years, he still produced for Washington and went 1-1 in the win-loss column. The Seahawks stand to gain from adding Johnson for more depth and security at the quarterback position given everything at play at the current moment.
