Drake Maye has caught flack after he was unable to lead the New England Patriots to a win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.
Maye threw two interceptions heading into the pivotal stages of the fourth quarter of New England’s 13-10 loss to Seattle, despite doing enough to keep the Patriots in the lead for much of the game up until crunch time. His costly third interception late in the fourth quarter allowed Seattle to ice the win, and his struggles on the game were uncharacteristic in comparison to the play that he had shown in 2025.
Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski gave Maye a fat “F” for his performance against the Bills.
“Much like the previously discussed Matthew Stafford, Drake Maye didn't look like the MVP-caliber player seen a season ago,”
Sobleski said. “Instead, he three three interceptions, including the game-clinching turnover with 21 seconds left to play… The issues were twofold.”
Maye finished 23-of-33 passing for 178 yards and one touchdown. His late turnovers, however, proved decisive in a game the Patriots appeared positioned to win.
The final interception came with just 26 seconds remaining, effectively ending New England’s comeback hopes and leaving Maye with a disappointing finish.
