Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback Drew Lock showed himself to be a ready and capable fill-in for Sam Darnold in Week 1, refreshing in the minds of the NFL world that he is a dependable backup in the league.
ESPN’s Seth Walder ranked Lock No. 13 overall in his backup quarterback rankings for the 2026 season.
“Lock played well in relief in Week 1, with a 79.9 QBR in Seattle's 13-10 win over New England,” Walder said. “But over the past four seasons, he has a 46.9 QBR and a minus-4% completion percentage over expected, though receivers have dropped his passes at a high rate.”
Lock completed 16-of-22 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown in the opener. He made the right decisions throughout the game to help Seattle take home the victory, and his play
ran consistent with what we’ve seen from him throughout his career. His ability to step in and provide quality production makes him a strong backup option to have in the league.
