Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold put up numbers in his return from injury in Week 3, but his performance may not have been a flawless one.
Bleacher Report gave Darnold a ‘C+’ for his play in the Seahawks 33-31 loss to the Washington Commanders last week.
“While Darnold put up significant numbers and threw four scoring passes, each of his second-half interceptions led to Washington touchdowns, including a pick-six,” Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski said. “Seattle wouldn't have been competitive Sunday if not for Darnold. He also give the Commanders too much.”
Darnold did completed 31 of 45 passes for 379 yards, averaging more than 12 yards per completion. He also found Jaxon Smith-Njigba for two touchdowns, generating much of Seattle’s offense
while the team struggled to establish consistent production on the ground.
The interceptions, though, changed the complexion of the game. The most damaging came when linebacker Kain Medrano intercepted a pass intended for tight end AJ Barner and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. Darnold’s other interception, reeled in by Commanders rookie linebacker Sonny Styles, also put Washington in favorable field position before another touchdown drive.
Darnold’s volume yardage and four touchdowns showcased his prowess with his arm, but the turnovers were most consequential from his performance in the game.
