Earlier in the day on Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks promoted safety Rodney Thomas to the active 53-man roster
. This wasn't a simple elevation, which they had done for the first two weeks, it was a full-blown signing. When they did so, my assumption was the corresponding roster transaction would be to place safety Ty Okada on injured reserve (IR) since he has missed every practice thus far in the season.Well, I was partially right, at least as far as someone going on the IR was concerned. But who the someone was... not at all who I was expecting. The Seahawks have placed starting right guard Anthony Bradford on IR, which means he will miss at least the next four games for Seattle. Bradford missed Week 2 with a knee injury and a hip injury that
appeared during the week of practice. This is an unfortunate blow for Bradford in a contract year, especially considering he started all 20 games for the Seahawks last season.
Seattle's third round pick from the 2024 NFL draft, Christian Haynes, will likely get the start again in Week 3. Expect him to split time with rookie Beau Stephens, who was Seattle's fifth round selection from this spring. However, depth at guard will be tested, especially with Mason Richman already on season-ending IR from a preseason injury. Haynes, Stephens and starter Grey Zabel are currently the only healthy guards left on the Seahawks' active 53-man roster.
Expect Seattle to make a move later in the week to bolster depth.
