Seattle Seahawks superstar wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is once again putting together a remarkable season in 2026, with his receiving yards production through the first seven weeks of the year closely mirroring his numbers from the same point of the season last year. With the closeness in production being so close, will Smith-Njigba end up breaking Calvin Johnson’s all-time single-season receiving yards record.
Smith-Njigba has accumulated 867 receiving yards through the first seven weeks of the current season, compared to the 819 yards that he put up through the first seven weeks of the 2025 season. The 48-yard difference highlights his continued consistency and growing importance to Seattle’s offense. He is currently on pace to blow Johnson’s
record out of the water with 2,105 yards come season’s end.
However, he was on pace to break Johnson’s record of 1,964 yards last season as well, with a pace to record 1,989 yards after seven weeks of play in the previous year, but it did not happen. Smith-Njigba did win the AP Offensive Player of the Year award last season following a historic showing in 2025. His performance established him among the league’s premier receivers, and his current pace has put Johnson’s NFL single-season receiving yards record within reach again.
Maintaining his production over the course of the remainder of the season will give him a legitimate opportunity to challenge the longstanding mark.
This season, Smith-Njigba may have an even better chance of making history, particularly with Seattle’s remaining schedule presenting opportunities to build on his impressive start. As he continues to ascend as a superstar and strengthen his connection with the offense, Smith-Njigba may be capable this time of turning another outstanding season into the best receiving season in league history.
