Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald is regarded as being in the upper echelon of head coaches in the NFL prior to the start of next season.
CBS Sports’ NFL experts ranked Macdonald No. 2 overall in their ranking of the top 10 head coaches entering the upcoming season.
”Macdonald has been simply outstanding, and like McVay, he's done so while being bold,” CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles said. “After a strong 10-7 debut season in Seattle, he was fine shipping Geno Smith off to the Raiders and firing offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, simply because Macdonald had a different vision for his team. The Seahawks brought in Sam Darnold and Klint Kubiak and went on to win the Super Bowl. It's been impressive to see him transition to that aspect of head coaching
responsibilities so easily.”
Macdonald called plays for the Seahawks’ championship defense in 2025. Seattle won the Super Bowl last season with elite units in all three phases of the defense and schematics that jumped out greatly.
The Seahawks’ offense was also ran well last season behind Sam Darnold, who threw for over 4,000 yards, and the reigning AP Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Macdonald did a great job overseeing the success of the team on both sides of the ball, and the Seahawks’ performance told the story, to the eyes above all else.
