The Seattle Seahawks officially signed running back Robert Henry Jr. to their 53-man active roster Tuesday and added running back Dontae McMillan as they reinforce the position room ahead of Week 5’s tilt against the San Francisco 49ers. AJ Finley was waived in a corresponding move. The organization put out a press release making the move official at 12:38 p.m. PDT.
Henry signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft. He made their practice squad to begin the season. The Seahawks signed him to their active roster off Washington’s practice squad today.
This news comes on the heels of veteran running back Joe Mixon failing his physical after being reported to sign with the organization yesterday. While
Henry doesn’t have the track record of Mixon, he’s an older rookie at 24 years old with five years of college experience. He grinded his way through the junior college ranks at Jones College before making it to University Of Texas-San Antonio. Lance Zierlein had a 7th Round/PFA grade on him, so to get him without needing to trade is a plus.
The fact the Seahawks were willing to open an active roster spot for Henry shows they believe in him beyond just the immediate need. He has an opportunity to feature for one of the best teams in the NFL as soon as he gets acclimated.
