Tight end Nick Vannett signed with the Baltimore Ravens practice squad Tuesday night after the Seattle Seahawks waived him on Sunday. The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec reported Vannett and tackle AJ Arcuri as the final two members of the Ravens’ initial practice squad.
Ravens final two practice spots will be filled by veteran TE Nick Vannett, most recently with the Seahawks; and OT AJ Arcuri, most recently with the Rams. Arcuri is 29. Vannett is 33.

The Seahawks had a choice between two blocking specialist TEs for their fourth spot in the position room, and elected to keep second-year Nick Kallerup over Vannett on their 53-man active roster. Kallerup just turned 25, while Vannett just turned 33. I’ve raved about Kallerup’s nastiness since last preseason,
but Vannett’s got experience in ways few other players do. It makes sense to risk losing the aging veteran to waivers during their final roster cuts rather than the ascending young player, but Vannett is a fascinating older option in his own right.
Ravens Wire’s Glenn Erby thought Baltimore could use a fifth TE option for their practice squad who could be a plug-and-play gameday elevation, and Vannett ticked those boxes. Their starter is Mark Andrews, who has appeared in 121 NFL Games, the same number as Vannett. He’ll need breathers and depth to spell him, especially on blocking downs. The Seahawks may have hoped for Vannett to reach the practice squad and play that same role for them, but now, they'll need to find another 6'5", 260+ pound tight end who can play in-line in a pinch.
The most interesting part of this story, though, is the fact that if Vannett plays a regular season snap for the Ravens, he would tie the NFL record for most teams played for throughout his career with ten. Out of the roughly 25,000-27,000 total players in NFL history, only kicker Shayne Graham and tackle and end Villie Moss have played for ten before Vannett.
