The Seattle Seahawks made headlines by signing two-time Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon to the practice squad on Monday. His addition further complicates a complicated situation in Mike Macdonald's backfield. The Seahawks will have to sort through how to navigate this.
Mixon's addition arrives at a time where the Seahawks are banged up in the backfield. They've also been inconsistent at running the football, though Emanuel Wilson played well in Week 4. Nonetheless, it's becoming a crowded situation.
Rookie first-round pick Jadarian Price will be on IR for a minimum of three more games with a chest injury. Zach Charbonnet recently had his return-to-practice window triggered, meaning he's nearing a return from last year's torn ACL injury. Charbonnet could
make his 2026 debut around Week 7.
Price is eligible to return in Week 8. Wilson has played admirably enough to maintain a change-of-pace role. A veteran of Mixon's caliber doesn't sign to a practice squad without expectations that he'll be elevated to the active roster.
The Seahawks could have Charbonnet, Price, Mixon, and Wilson in the backfield. Offensive coordinator Brian Fleury would be tasked with figuring out how to divide carries. Amidst injury and disappointment in the Seahawks' backfield, GM John Schneider decided to leave no stone unturned.
