Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald expressed his frustration with the team's inability to stop opposing ground games in the red zone following the team’s 34-17 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night.
As a recent guest on the “Brock & Salk Show,” Macdonald acknowledged that the defense's struggles near the goal line has become a recurring issue that needs to be addressed, per The Athletic’s Andrew Destin.
"We have fallen short way too many times on that front,” Macdonald said. “So, it's unacceptable. Same thing, same conversation on offense."
Seattle struggled to contain Chicago's offense inside the 20-yard line, surrendering touchdowns on all four of the Bears' red-zone possessions. The inability to force stops proved costly as Chicago consistently
converted scoring opportunities into touchdowns.
The performance continued a troubling season-long trend for Seattle's defense. Through eight games, opponents have scored a total of seven touchdowns against Seattle in the red-zone, leaving the Seahawks looking for answers in that department.
Seattle will get its next opportunity to address those issues in Week 9 when the team faces the Arizona Cardinals. The division matchup will provide the Seahawks defense with an opportunity to respond, improve its red-zone execution and put an end to a trend that has repeatedly hurt the team this year.
