Ty Okada has the chance to emerge as a key factor for the Seattle Seahawks in 2026 as the team enters the season with expectations to contend for another Super Bowl title.
ESPN’s Ben Solak named Okada as the X-factor who has what it takes to swing the season for the Seahawks in 2026 with strong play on the year.
“The Seahawks won the Super Bowl thanks to their defense last year, and this defensive structure only works with safeties who can click quickly and close on the run for minimal gains,” Solak said. “Okada looked the part last year in limited action, but the challenge this time is greater.”
After gaining valuable experience in his first season, Okada is positioned for a larger role in Seattle’s defensive backfield in 2026. His ability to
read the field and make plays in space may prove itself to be increasingly important as the Seahawks navigate their schedule throughout the year.
Okada plays with a combination of athleticism, awareness and physicality that gives Seattle flexibility on defense. His development will also help provide stability in the secondary, in the event that it takes place.
While bigger names may attract most of the attention, Okada has an opportunity to become an under-the-radar difference-maker for Seattle. If he builds upon his previous level of play from the 2025 season and consistently make plays when needed, he may prove to be one of Seattle’s most valuable defensive pieces in 2026.
However, Okada's health has become a recent concern for the Seahawks. He missed Sunday's practice due to a hamstring injury, putting his availability for Week 1 against the New England Patriots in serious jeopardy.
For the Seahawks, Okada’s continued growth - and health - may be crucial to their hopes of making another deep postseason run.
