The Seattle Seahawks are the reigning champions of easily the most difficult division in the entire league: the NFC West. For well over a decade, the NFC West has been a gauntlet, and earning the right to become champions of this division has been a near-Herculean effort. It took until Week 18 of last season to crown a champ, and it likely will be the same in 2026 as well.
Of course, that will be at the end of a very long road, one we have only just now begun to travel on. We have officially concluded Week 1 of the NFL season, at least as far as the division is concerned. Seattle kicked things off on Wednesday night last week, defending home turf against the New England Patriots with a 13-10 win. On the next night, the San Francisco 49ers thoroughly
dominated the Los Angeles Rams to the tune of 27-7 down in Australia. However, the biggest surprise of the weekend came on Sunday when the Arizona Cardinals upset the Los Angeles Chargers 26-14 on the road. Arizona is expected to be among the worst teams in all of football this year, and is the "trendy" pick to secure the No. 1 overall pick. But this is the NFL, and the Cardinals reminded us why the league boasts "any given Sunday" as a motto.
With Week 1 officially concluded, here are the NFC West's current standings:
- Seattle Seahawks 1-0
- Arizona Cardinals 1-0
- San Francisco 49ers 1-0
- Los Angeles Rams 0-1
I'm not sure anyone had "Rams being the only 0-1 team after the first week" on their 2026 bingo card, but here we are. At least one of these teams is guaranteed to improve to 2-0, as the Seahawks and Cardinals play each other on Sunday, September 20th. The 49ers will host the Miami Dolphins, and will surely be expected to win that one - but as we just saw with the Cardinals, you cannot overlook anyone in this league. As for the Rams, they return to the United States for a home showdown against the 1-0 New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
