The Seattle Seahawks are licking their wounds following their narrow 33-31 loss to the Washington Commanders. Seattle showed they were not an invincible juggernaut, but rather a great team with some flaws like the rest of the league. However, a loss is still a loss, and it often results in "punishment" by slipping in NFL power rankings across the country.
Such is the case with Pacific Northwest native, Colin Cowherd. On his show, "The Herd," Cowherd does his own weekly power rankings he calls the Herd Hierarchy. For the first two weeks, Seattle was naturally atop the Hierarchy at No. 1. Unfortuantely, this changed ever so slightly given the Seahawks' road loss.
Here is what Cowherd had to say about his home state's team:
"The little disturbing
problem for the Seahawks. It's not the loss, but they're not running the football. Why are they such a great road team? What travels? Toughness, coaching, and run games. They're not running the ball. They were number one graded run team last year, number one rated. This year they're 28th. Kenneth Walker's not there. [Zach] Charbonnet hasn't been healthy. It's a real thing. The reason they are so good on the road is they kill the crowd. They run the ball. Not this year, and that is something to keep your eye on."
Cowherd is spot on that this was a great concern. Do I think this is going to be an issue that will persist throughout the season? No, I believe the Seahawks will get this fixed, as evidenced by the fact they did have 162 yards as a team in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals. But still, the fact they were limited to only 44 in Week 3 was concerning to say the least.
Seattle desperately needs to get their ground game back on track, especially with such a daunting slate of games ahead of them.
