Sam Darnold deserves a “B” for his performance in the Seattle Seahawks’ Week 7 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, as he delivered a commendable outing that helped his team secure an important win. Darnold showed the resilience that was needed to lead Seattle to victory and bounce back from the recent struggles that followed them into the game.
Darnold completed 20 of 28 passes for 257 yards, a touchdown and an interception while adding 17 rushing yards on two carries. He finished with a 96.9 passer rating and did not take a sack. His connection with Jaxon Smith-Njigba on a 28-yard touchdown gave the team an early lead, while his passing efficiency helped Seattle maintain control of the game. Guiding the Seahawks to a convincing win with those
improved numbers from his recent string of play deserves a redeeming grade, especially given the pressure surrounding his recent performances.
However, Darnold's interception exacerbates a concern that he has yet to fix this season. Another interception continues a troubling trend that has him currently sitting as the league leader in interceptions on the year with eight. Throwing just one passing touchdown also limited his overall impact and prevented him from earning a grade in the A range. Although the victory was encouraging, Darnold still has room to improve his decision-making and consistency moving forward.
